Farewell Team Afghanistan

Ryan with international star Rashid Khan during his time on tour with Afghanistan’s national team.

Dear Cricket Family,

It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that my time as the fielding coach of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team has come to an end.

As I reflect on the incredible journey we've shared along the way, I am filled with gratitude, pride, and a touch of nostalgia.

Working with the team has been an absolute privilege, one that has shaped me both personally and professionally. From the highs of series wins away in Bangladesh to the unforgettable moments of drawing away at Sri Lanka, and the historic triumphs over Pakistan in the Asia Cup, every experience has been a testament to the resilience and talent of everyone involved in the team.

The pinnacle of my journey was the recent successful campaign at the World Cup in Australia. The victories over cricketing giants like England and Pakistan will forever be etched in our memories, serving as a reminder of what can be achieved with dedication, determination, and teamwork.

But beyond the victories and the scoreboards, what truly made my time with the squad and coaching team so special were the bonds forged, the lessons learned, and the memories made. The camaraderie, the hard work, and the unwavering spirit within the team are what I will carry with me as I embark on the next chapter of my career.

To the players, the coaching staff, and everyone associated with Afghan cricket, I extend my deepest gratitude for your trust, your effort and support. It has been an honour to work alongside each and every one of you, and I am immensely proud of all that we achieved.

As I bid farewell to this chapter of my life, I do so with a heart full of treasured memories and gratitude. I am excited for what the future holds, both for me personally and for Afghan cricket. I have no doubt that this team will continue to inspire, to triumph, and to make history.

I'm very fortunate to be actively involved in the Pakistan Super League and look forward to making a positive impact on the Quetta Gladiators bid for glory this season.

I'm certainly going to enjoy being at home more often, spending time with my family and working hard with my academy, the Cricket School of Excellence, which is currently enjoying its 25th year anniversary.

Thank you again for the unforgettable journey.

Ryan Maron
